Hansen Foods (established in 1993 by Dave & Leslie Hansen) is an independently owned, family grocery store, that services Leelanau County and all surrounding areas. In 1999, a fire destroyed the original 4,800-square-foot building and Hansen purchased an 8.1 acre parcel to the immediate south and developed a new 15,000-square-foot store. The current Hansen Foods building has been open since 2000 and the area including other small businesses has become known as Hansen Plaza, with the store remaining as the plaza’s anchor. In 2007, Hansen Foods was sold to right hand man, Ronald “Gus” O’Brien. Dave & Leslie have since opened another store in Hart, Michigan. The store has experienced improvements over the years and after nearly twelve years of ownership, Gus decided to sell the business to a group of longtime employees, for a much needed & well earned retirement. Connie Frost, along with her two kids, Corey & Dani Frost and Dani’s fiance, Dan, purchased the store in January of 2019. In August of 2020, Dani & Dan got married.
The family looks to enhance what Hansen & O’Brien have built over the years and they are excited to continue the legacy of friendly & knowledgeable service, specialty products, and community involvement that Hansen Foods has been known for!
